All our bulk herbs are either organic or wildcrafted and the best available. We keep a large selection on hand, but due to natural conditions, not all herbs are always available. Organic herbs are cultivated herbs that use no pesticides, wildcrafted herbs are herbs gathered from the wild and are also not sprayed with anything. Our herbs come in different forms. Ground (G) is used for making capsules and poultices. Cut and Sifted (C/S) is normally used in all tea blends and tincturing. Whole Roots are also used in teas and tincturing. Tincturing is taught in our HHA Herbology Course.

It is important for you to understand that using bulk herbs requires skill and training. Just because it is an herb, does not mean that it is harmless to the body. Each herb has it's own healing properties and some herbs are much more potent and cause physical reactions than others. For instance, Senna Leaf. This is a very potent laxative and if you drink a glass or two of this as a refreshment beverage, you will spend the next day in the bathroom. Senna is to be used as a medicinal herb only and not in any refreshment herbal tea. Many herbs like Peppermint, Spearmint, Chamomile, Alfalfa, etc can be used in refreshment teas and offer mild nutritive support with no side effects. These are even safe for children.

MAKING AN HERBAL TEA
Two methods are used. One is known as INFUSION - This is where you simply pour boiling water over the herbs and let them sit for 15 minutes and strain. This method is used with the leafy and floral herbs such as Peppermint, Spearmint, Chamomile, Alfalfa, etc. To help protect the volatile oils and enhance flavor the cup should be covered. while steeping. Simply take 1 level tablespoon per cup, add your boiling water, cover, let steep, drain and sweeten if necessary. The second method is known as DECOCTION - This requires that you simmer the herbs in water on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes. This is done with all root herbs and bark herbs. This process is necessary in order to extract the healing nutrients from the herbs with the tough outer coatings.

MAKING HERBAL MEDICINE TEA
The ratio is slightly different, but the above process is the same. Use 1 oz. of herb per pint (16 oz) of distilled water. Double the steep or boil time. Strain and refrigerate. After straining you should get about 12 oz. Doses will vary depending on the herb used, but usually it is one to two ounces mixed with 2 ounces of distilled water. These teas are good for a week in the refrigerator.

HERBAL TEA COMBINATIONS
